I haven’t blogged since April!

To be honest my blogging class left a bitter taste in my mouth and I was "protesting" I guess.

I decided today that I want to get back into it. I don’t have many followers and reader. The only people who I had were from my blogging class and from the five minutes I just glanced around my site most of them have quit too. I want to blog for me, a place to write and to talk about what is going on.

So let’s play catch up.

1. This summer I had the chance to go to Lu-Jo again and I’m proud of myself for going (Kaci- please read this next year when you are having second thoughts)

I feel horrible because growing up I always thought of Lu-Jo as my home away from home and the best place on earth.

I made some poor decisions and ruined it for myself and probably a few others as well.

I'm not proud of the way I acted and the person I was. (If any one I offended reads this, I truly do apologize for my actions!)

I hope that I can reestablish the relationships I had and the love I found at this amazing place! I love Lu-Jo and I don’t want to let it go.

2. I started my senior year at UCO and that’s crazy to me. I’m almost done with the fall semester which means I will be graduating in May. I have no idea how that happened. I applied for graduation in October and it still doesn’t seem real to me.

3. I'm still in love with my crazy boyfriend. Sometimes I want to ring his neck and sometime I wonder what I’m doing but once I calm down I realize how amazing he is (even when he tests my patience). :)

Trevor has became the crazy snake guy and has FOUR now!! LeRoy, Lincoln, Larry and Lars. They are his pets! I have recently adopted two sweet Sugar Gliders, Gin and Tonic.

4. Yesterday a friend of mine died in a car crash, Amber Lee Brown. We weren’t super closer but she used to be one of my managers at Applebees and she was a VERY sweet girl! She was driving too fast and lost control. Her and her passenger lost their lives.

If you read this please send up a prayer for her family. Amber was a single mother and she left behind her very young daughter, Cheyenne. It really makes you think about how quickly your whole life can change.

Last night after I heard the news I was watching The Voice with Trevor and Tate, my favorite on the show, sang Garth Brooks song If Tomorrow Never Comes and all I could think about was sweet Cheyenne loosing her mommy.

I am so excited to get to talk about the blog indiejane photography. I have been following Amanda's blog for a long time and I love how creative she is. I know my blog is not a photography blog but Indie Jane is about so much more than photography. I think the blog is inspiring and fun and I cant wait to present it to the class.

Laundry Soap Do It Yourself

What you need:

1. 1 cup Borax

2. 1 cup Washing Soda

3. 1 Bar Soap

Also you will need a bowl of some kind, a funnel, a cheese grater and a jar.

Step 1: Grate the soap into your large bowl.

Step 2: Add 1 cup of Borax and 1 cup of Washing Soda to your bowl.

Step 3: Add the mixture into a jar.

*A Few Hints*

-if your grater does not make your soap flakes small enough you may want to use a blinder, otherwise you may have to run your water in your machine before you put your clothes in so that you can let the soap dissolve enough that it will not stain your clothes. (Possibly using white soap instead of blue would resolve this issue)  

Use 1 tbs with every load of laundry. :)

Facebook Timeline

I have seen a lot of fancy timelines for the new Facebook. I wanted to create one for myself.
It took some time and patience but I did it, and now I want to show you how.

First I found the dimensions for the timeline.

Then I used Photoshop to recreate the dimensions for my timeline. I just got creative with it, you can do whatever you want with yours but I will show you the image I came up with.

Next you have to cut out a piece big enough to use as your profile picture.

Dave Rhea-Social Media Blog

Dave Rhea from  spoke to our blogging class on Tuesday. He is the social media blogger for The Journal Record. He gave us tips about how to get into the industry and have job security. The most important thing I got out of his talk was

•Love to Learn- Constantly take in new ideas. Technology is changing. In fact, Dave said the only thing you can count on is change. So love it and learn it. 

If you love to learn and love to get involved in new technology then you will love you job and have security if your job title changes. Learning is fun, technology is fun, embrace it and enjoy it.

Okie Funk

I know I haven't posted anything artsy in awhile. I promise I will soon I just have been so busy and broke I haven't had a change to do any fun projects.

Yesterday in my blogging class we had a guest speaker. Kurt Hochenauer, he has the award winning blog Okie Funk.

I love that he writes exactly how he feels about an issue or situation. He said he has offended everybody at least once, but he doesn't care. He is just honest and tells it how he sees it.

The most rewarding part of his talk with us was when he told us it doesn't matter what you write about as long as you enjoy it.

All in all a great talk from Dr. Hochenauer.

Superbowl 2012

The Superbowl is a big deal right? Most people choose a team and cheer them on. Others, like myself, watch for the commercials. 

Since I am an Advertising major and all I pick them apart and always have things I like or don't like. 

After the game for the next few days America votes on the best commercials of the game.

I disagree with them this year. 

My favorite commercial this year isn't getting the credit it deserves.

I wanted to give it a little love on my blog.

Cheap Acrylic

I'm not a real big "girly girl" but like most girls out there I love to have my nails done.
My finger nails do grow REALLY fast which is cool.. but.. I have a tendency to bite my nails :-/

(Horrible habit I know)

I wouldn't mind going to get my nails done if it didn't cost a arm and a leg.

This girl is BROKE! I cant afford to pay 40 dollars for some fake fingers.

Anyway..

I saw at walmart the acrylic nail "do it yourself" kits.

I was interested but thought to myself "There is NO way you could do that. The left hand might look okay. but the right would look like a 3 year old did it" so I never bought one.
Well I broke down yesterday and bought a kit at walmart. The box said easy for beginners, and it was less than $10 SCORE.

Well they don't lie. It was super easy! I did mess up on one nail and had to take it off and try again, but it was my first time.

It happens.

They look just like they do when you spend 40 dollars and at least an hour out of your day to go get them done. It only took me about 15 minutes to finish and I'm super impressed.

I will buy these again.

Button Bracelet

I saw a really cute bracelet on Pinterest the other day so I made my own, and you can too!

First double up your string and tie a knot in the end

Next cross the strings through the button holes.

(This can be done with buttons which have two or four holes)

 

(Sorry they are blurry)

Continue this until the braclet fits your wrist. The last button you use can slip threw the loop you made at the begining to fasten the bracelet.

And your done.

There are tons of blogs and websites that help you learn how to blog and how to make whatever you have to talk about stand out to your readers.

We discussed a few of these websites in class and our job was to find our own website that helps you create a blog post people want to read.

I found the social media examiner website. I thought this website was really helpful because it not only helps you figure out how to write your post but how to do it without taking all day long.

• Plan your writing
• Create a headline bank
• Time yourself. Watch the clock.
• Use the "series approach" 
• Get to "the meat of the problem"

Chicken N Dumplins

Crock Pot

Chicken and Dumplins

What you need:

2-4 boneless skinless chicken breasts

2 tablespoons butter

2 cans cream of chicken soup

1 can chicken broth

1 onion diced

1 tablespoon dried parsley

4 grands flaky refrigerator biscuits

(I didnt put the onion or parsley in mine because Trevor doesn't like it)

1. Add the chicken to your crock pot.

2. Add the butter, cream of chicken, chicken broth, onion and parsley.

3. Cook on High for 4-6 hours.

4. Cut up your biscuits into little pieces.

5. Add the biscuits to your crock pot and continue cooking for 30 mins.

6. ENJOY!

We had a class assignment to view this website and read allllll about bloggers over the years. They asked them a million questions about how, where and when they blog and then assembled about 300 flow charts and pie charts of their data.

This part did not really interest me. Maybe if I hadn't been up since 6:30 with no coffee.

The cool part about this website is that they have a list of blogs they follow and it is put into categories. I will be checking that section out from time to time to find fun/artsy blogs to inspire me, but for now I have had all of Technorati I can take.

ugly sweater.

Fridays are my day off. It is the only day of the week that I do not have to go to school or either job. So I decided this last friday I was going to take a trip to good ol Goodwill.

I found a tacky sweater for $2. So I bought it.

I really wanted some socks to wear with my boots.(if it ever gets cold enough to wear them)
